The Quality of Life Trust was founded by Indian villagers, who live on the outskirts of Tiruvannamalai. The goal for the Trust is to improve the lives of local villagers.

One key element of the trust is a partnership between village people and westerners who live and stay here, attracted by Sri Ramanasramam and Arunachala.

Presently there are two main projects the Trust has undertaken. The first is the Elder Support Project, helping abandoned elders with meals, medical support, and hopefully soon, with housing. The other is the Eco-San Toilet construction project. Eco-San Toilets are composting toilets that need no water connection nor septic tank. They provide sanitation, and reduce basic health risks, while providing vital fertilizer. As implemented for this project, these Eco-San Toilets also include a washing and bathing room. This was asked for by many of the villagers, seeking basic privacy and dignity for their daily bathing activities.
